TAX FREE SHOPPING FOR OUR NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS
(...well, almost)

The Referee's Closet has recently petitioned for, and was awarded an exemption from the NJ Sales and Use Tax for the referee equipment we sell.  In an agreement reached with the State of New Jersey, effective Friday, March 9, 2007 sales tax will no longer be collected by The Referee's Closet for the purchase of the following items:

Unfortunately, accessory items such as bags, whistles, laces, and shintights will still be subject to the Sales and Use Tax, but given the relatively inexpensive nature of these items, the added tax for these items should be negligible. 

Our apologies to our New Jersey customers that have placed prior orders with us, but we cannot apply this new ruling retroactively.  We can only stop charging sales tax from 3/9/07 forward.

Tax on Shipping:
When the new Sales and Use Tax laws were enacted in July, the State mandated that we charge sales tax on the shipping & handling charges as well for orders containing taxable items.  Unfortunately, our shopping cart cannot conditionally charge sales tax on the shipping based on if the order contains taxable items or not. 

As a result, each order place that is shipped to New Jersey will be charged sales tax on the shipping by the shopping cart.  If your order contains only the non-taxable items listed above, we will manually remove the sales tax from the order when it is imported into our order processing system.  Orders that have a mix of taxable and non-taxable items will still be charged sales tax on the shipping (and the taxable items) as calculated by the shopping cart.
